Shadow & Highlight Adjustment
Clive R. Haynes FRPS
The introduction of a method specifically to control Shadows and Highlights in Photoshop CS2 has presented a powerful and intelligent way of revealing detail in areas of extreme contrast. However, it must be remembered that the original picture must contain sufficient detail within the shadow and highlight areas for it to be revealed. This method cannot replace missing shadow or highlight detail, it can, however, very successfully manage what is present.
How 'different' the above images appear may well depend upon the setting of the monitor upon which they are viewed.
The facility is to be found via Image > Adjustments > Shadow / Highlight.
Upon opening, the dialogue box may only reveal 'slider' controls for Shadows & Highlights.
However, by clicking on the 'Show More Option' box, additional controls appear.
